OPA-LOCKA, Fla – On Saturday, 26 January 2019, 15 members of the Group 7 HQ staff and the Opa-Locka Cadet Squadron braved the cold and wet weather to support the Miami-Dade County 2019 STEAM Expo at the North Campus of Miami-Dade College.
The program featured an estimated 25,000 students in teams from Miami-Dade county schools competing in various science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics events. CAP seniors supported the program as event judges while the cadets provided logistics assistance for the Brain Bowl.
Group 7 HQ staffers, led by Lt. Col. Bonnie Hinck-Baldatti, Aerospace Education Officer, included Lt. Col. Mario Baldatti, Internal Aerospace Education Officer, Maj. Kevin Simon, External Aerospace Education Officer, Lt. Col. Trevor Stewart, Public Affairs Officer, and Dr. Rosella Chiarella, Aerospace Education Member (AEM).
The Opa-Locka seniors and cadets, who were on their way to a scheduled Search and Rescue training exercise when it was cancelled because of poor weather conditions, diverted and joined the CAP contingent at this event. They were Lt. Miguel de la Fuente, Squadron Commander, Capt. Roberto Rodriquez, Lt. Christian Dominguez, Senior Member Nicholas Rodriquez, Senior Member Stephen White, C/Amn. Bardon Bustos, C/Amn. Kaiden Funk, C/Amn. Alexander Missagia, C/Amn. Darren Williams, and C/Amn. Kylie White.
At the end of the program, event organizer, Dane Jaber of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, expressed his organization’s gratitude for CAP's participation, in spite of the poor weather.
