Venice, Fla. --

The Venice Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Tamiami Memorial Post 8118 has awarded two outstanding cadets from the Venice Cadet Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) with the prestigious VFW Cadet of the Year Award. In a recent ceremony, Cadet Captain Justin McDonald received the Cadet Officer of the Year Award and Cadet Chief Master Sergeant Ishan Gildersleeve received the Cadet Non-Commissioned Officer of the Year Award.

The awards, presented by VFW Commander John Gage and Quartermaster Carl Lawler, are given on the basis of the cadetís progress and status in the CAP cadet program, in addition to outstanding academic achievement in school and exceptional leadership abilities. VFW Post 8118 supports the efforts of the Venice Cadet Squadron to foster leadership and good citizenship in our local youth with monetary donations to support cadet activities and opportunities to serve the community.

The Venice Cadet Squadron assists the VFW Post 8118 throughout the year at area events and most recently at the Memorial Day Ceremony held at Patriots Park on May 27, 2019. Both cadets, along with their squadron members, attended the ceremony to honor those who gave their lives in service to the United States of America.
